.BIBLE Reaches Contracting Milestone
American Bible Society has signed the contract with Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to operate the .BIBLE top-level domain (TLD) Registry, reaching another significant milestone for .BIBLE.
What does this mean? Contracting statistics is one of the dashboard items that ICANN publishes on its Program Statistics page. This is one of many indicators to show how the new gTLDs (generic top-level domains) program is progressing along. As of July 11, 2014, there are a total of 468 new gTLDs that have completed contracting and .BIBLE TLD is one of them. Plus, there are over 1.5 million new gTLD domain names registered already, with many more to come.
What this means practically is that the .BIBLE TLD is one step closer to becoming a reality. Without getting into the technical jargon, the next steps will be getting the technical infrastructure in place to operate the .BIBLE Registry. Concurrently with technical developments, the .BIBLE Registry Team will be making final preparations for operating processes, policies, registration procedures, projecting dates for the public launch, and communicating pertinent information as they are finalized.
While .BIBLE is preparing, you can be preparing too. What your organization can do right now is to start the strategic discussions with your leadership team to prepare for the future reality of an Internet with .BIBLE domain names along with an estimated 1,000+ new gTLDs. It does take time to develop websites, apps, programs, and ideas to make the most of these opportunities. Feel free to contact the .BIBLE Registry Team at info@BibleTLD.org and we would like to help in any way that we can.
The best way to stay informed is to subscribe to the free .BIBLE newsletter at BibleTLD.org and to read the .BIBLE blog at BibleTLD.org/blog. You may also follow .BIBLE in real-time on Twitter @BibleTLD and on Facebook Facebook.com/BibleTLD.
The mission of .BIBLE is to encourage Bible engagement, market innovation, and global partnerships so that all people may experience the life-changing message of the Bible. American Bible Society is launching .BIBLE to create new digital real estate, to protect the .BIBLE TLD from inappropriate use, and to foster innovative partnerships to empower global Bible engagement.
When the .BIBLE TLD launches, .BIBLE domain names will become a relevant and trusted digital neighborhood on the Internet for all things Bible. Churches, ministry organizations, and individuals will be able to register .BIBLE domain names that are more useful, shorter, memorable, and meaningful for their websites and apps to better engage their audiences in the digital world.
