Four Steps To Rank Higher on SERPs
Showing up on the search engine results pages (SERP) is the aim for web marketers and contributors across the board. While some rank placements depend on factors outside of our control, there are some tried and true efforts we can make to increase our site’s rankings.
Here, we’ll dive into four industry-proven steps that you can implement today.
4. Alternative Text = Content
When you have the chance to give your video or image file a name, do it! Don’t upload a file onto your server with a name like IMG238. To take advantage of every opportunity to have your content indexed by a crawler, give a descriptive label to your file. Think about keywords associated with your site. For instance:
Okay alt text: <img src="woman346.png" alt="woman">
Best alt text: <img src="woman.png" alt="woman ipad coffee shop">
EXPERT HACK: If you display videos on your website, don’t miss out on the chance to optimize indexing! Provide a full transcript underneath.
3. Acquire a Clear Domain Name
You’ve worked hard to cultivate your brand, and your website name should reflect those efforts.
In the Search Engine Journal, Gillon Hunter tells organizations that the best domain name is “unique, clear, short, meaningful, catchy and inspiring.” Does yours fit the bill?
Carefully think through your website name, whether you’re on a top-level domain (TLD) like .com, .org, or a not-com like .BIBLE.
2. Links Matter
We all have links to share (and search engine crawlers like that!), but vague links have no value.
Vague link: If you want to learn more about the .BIBLE TLD, click here!
Destination link or keyword link: Learn more about the .BIBLE TLD.
Descriptive links will improve search engine rankings, and also provide clarity to anyone using a screen reader.
1. Quality Content
Your site visitors (and crawlers!) like new content, but never sacrifice quality for quantity. Starting a blog is an easy way to create relevant content tailored to your audience.
