What would the Internet be like with .BIBLE domains?

Today, the Bible remains the bestselling and widely distributed book of all time. Guinness World Records estimates that 5 billion copies of the Bible were printed between 1815 and 1975. Whilst the numbers may be high, sadly bible engagement is declining.

In a study conducted by the American Bible Society, 88% of Americans own the Bible, but only 26% read it regularly. The study is only limited to the US population. But, it is likely to get the same result if conducted in other predominantly Christian countries.

In contrast, according to a study published by Pew Research, 90% of American adults own a cell phone. Of this figure, 67% check their phones even if they haven’t heard it ringing or beeping. Another 44% admitted sleeping with their phone next to them, to make sure they don’t miss a call, text or update. And 29% of them described their phone as something they can’t imagine living without.

So, is the Bible outdated and irrelevant in modern day life? Not so.

We believe the Bible is God’s Word that has power to change lives. And His message is eternal. As such, the message written in the Bible is as relevant today as it was, over 2000 years ago. And for modern day Christians, Christ’s message of love, truth, justice and salvation still hold true.

However, the ways Christians communicate and consume information have changed. They are also being constantly buried under tons of information.

Every day they are blitzed with words and images, whether they want them or not. Information is muddled. Daily, they have to go through the process of sifting facts and truths from opinions and hearsays. Sadly, while meaningless data hits them on the face regularly, they have to mentally and physically go and look for God. It’s like a test to prove their faith.

Wading through masses of information is hard work. As for those who try to share their faith, they risk being ridiculed. It is a ‘survival of the fittest.’ Only the resolute survive. Today, people are just like the lost sheep. They are exhausted sheep.

It’s easier to do nothing and go with the flow. It is safer to keep quiet than to risk open criticism for having the courage to express your religious opinion.

Today, more than ever, the Church must actively and lovingly reach out to those who seek God. That is part of the mission of .BIBLE.

Expected to launch in the early part of 2016, .BIBLE will provide a brand new Internet name space with a special purpose: to help carry on the Christian Mission and announce God’s love for the world.

.BIBLE unites Christians worldwide in a safe and supportive online environment. It gives individuals, Christian ministries, organizations and communities their own online identity. It is a place for them to engage and share God’s words openly and honestly. It is where the faithful can express their faith in God’s promises without fear of persecution or ridicule.

.BIBLE has a vision to be the trusted online source for all things Bible. The mission of .BIBLE is to encourage Bible engagement, translation, innovation, and global partnerships so that all people may experience the life-changing message of the Bible.
