Where Can I Find Happiness?

Posted on March 6, 2019 by .BIBLE Registry Categories: Spiritual

Being happy gets a bad rap these days. We often associate the procurement of happiness with luxury— having possessions or money, or even blissful experiences.

Scripture often uses the term happiness alongside the work blessed, which means receiving God’s gifts and obeying Him.

Of course, we are blessed by things like food, shelter, and adventure, and they can be seen as a sign of God’s blessing. These are good (and most would say necessary) things! But they have not been placed in our lives to ensure happiness. Listen to what the Psalmist says:

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a real blessing... Happy is the man who has many such arrows. Psalm 127:3-4 GNT

Blessings like children are to be celebrated, but they aren’t required for happiness, and certainly not an endorsement of approval from above.

So, what is true happiness? True and lasting happiness is found in a relationship with the One who created us. Again, the Psalmist:

Happy are those who... find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord, and they study it day and night. They are like trees that grow beside a stream, that bear fruit at the right time, and whose leaves do not dry up. They succeed in everything they do. Psalm 1:5 GNT

These trees have planted themselves right in the middle of the action — right where the source of life lies. They have planted themselves in the water. We, too, need to makes sure we have access to the Living Water, so we can learn God’s law and find joy.

There are countless Bible study tools that can help as you plant yourself by a stream and bear fruit from the Living Water.

Checkout some of these and find a reading plan, or simply start reading or listening to scripture:
