How the Bible is a Guide to Parenting

Posted on May 6, 2016 by .BIBLE Registry Categories: Examples

Parenting is not an easy endeavor like using a step-by-step recipe. Every person has unique qualities and characteristics specially custom-made and crafted by the hand of God, so when a child is brought under the care of a father and mother, or a single parent, the Bible does provide the foundational guide for the essential roles of the parents, as shown in these frequently-referenced Bible verses:

Never forget these commands that I am giving you today. Teach them to your children. Repeat them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working. Tie them on your arms and wear them on your foreheads as a reminder. Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates. (Deuteronomy 6:6-9)

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a real blessing. The sons a man has when he is young are like arrows in a soldier’s hand. Happy is the man who has many such arrows. He will never be defeated when he meets his enemies in the place of judgment. (Psalms 127:3-5)

My child, pay attention to what your father and mother tell you. Their teaching will improve your character as a handsome turban or a necklace improves your appearance. (Proverbs 1:8-9)

Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their life. (Proverbs 22:6)

Parents, do not treat your children in such a way as to make them angry. Instead, raise them with Christian discipline and instruction. (Ephesians 6:4)

Endure what you suffer as being a father’s punishment; your suffering shows that God is treating you as his children. Was there ever a child who was not punished by his father? (Hebrews 12:7)
