Site Connects Readers to Original Scriptures

Posted on January 30, 2019 by .BIBLE Registry Categories: Examples

Berean.Bible is the home of the Berean Study Bible. This version is a “word for word” and “thought for thought” translation of the scriptures from their original languages of Hebrew and Greek into modern English.

Also available on Berean.Bible is the Hebrew Old Testament, prepared with modern formatting for poetry, paragraphs, and chapters, and the Greek New Testament, written to best reflect the earliest manuscripts. This version is also complete with modern formatting and red-letter text.

The Berean Study Bible (BSB) was developed by a committee who examined the initial texts and wrote three tiers of translations, and derived its name from Acts 17:11:

“Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.”

Comparing different translations can be an interesting study. Later, we’ll compare a verse in the Berean and English Standard Versions. It has been said that the best Bible translation is the one you will read. In that case, readers have some choices. Here are the Berean translation tiers available:

STUDY BIBLE

In translating the BSB, it had to remain true to its original meaning and source. The work of translating from the original language is maintained, so readers can take a step back into the world of the subjects and study the roots of the words used.

LITERAL BIBLE

This translation takes the reader back to the core of the original language meanings, for both Greek and Hebrew. As quoted from Berean.Bible, some of the priorities include the following:

  • Tense, mood, and voice of verbs are maintained as closely as possible.
  • Gender is translated to be consistent with the Greek sources
  • Pronouns that represent Deity are capitalized for the clearer study of difficult passages
  • Sentence structure is maintained so that, in general, the flow of the longer Greek sentences is not interrupted in the translation to the literal version.

INTERLINEAR BIBLE

Described on Berean.Bible, this translation “is a word for word, Greek word order rendering based on the most reliable Greek sources.”

AVAILABLE TO ALL

Acts 13:19

BSB: And having vanquished seven nations in Canaan, He gave their land to His people as an inheritance.

ESV: And after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance.
