Tracking Bible Translation around the World
Progress.Bible is changing what we know about Bible translation.
If you felt a passion for bringing the Scriptures to a specific people group, where would you begin? How would you know which portions of the Bible are already there, if any at all? Which organization would you contact? And how would you know exactly which projects were currently underway, working towards the same goals?
You’d need reliable data.
Half a century ago, SIL (originally known as the Summer Institute of Linguistics, Inc.) began the huge task of tracking which languages in the world had Bibles, and which ones needed Bible translations. Over time, data was hard to compile, and the accuracy of the information wasn’t certain.
Now, Progress.Bible has introduced a new way to compile this information, developed in conjunction with partner organizations. This process is painting the most comprehensive and accurate picture of Bible translation ever.
Tying together information from partners worldwide, Progress.Bible is gathering updated data to report vital translation information, like:
- Translation needs
- Program statuses
- Available products
In short, they’re helping us understand what’s going on in the world of Bible translation. By bringing together information about plans, projects, and translated materials, Progress.Bible provides a single point of reference to help make sense of current translation work.
Additionally, the site makes it easy to get in contact with a representative from the Progress.Bible group, where you can report any data or work your group is involved with.
